Mariazellerbahn (english)

Mariazellerbahn is a real jewel of alpine railway engeneering.

The track starts in St. Pölten and ends in Mariazell. In between are 84 km of alpine railtrack crossing 79 bridges and tunnels. The longest tunnel ist 2.430m.

Gauge size is 30". Our gauge ist called "Bosnian gauge" This gauge came via Suez (after end of the channel construction) to Austria. In first step (more than 120 years ago) in the protectorat Bosnia somme railway have been built. Threfore this name.
